Cooktown was a busy gold port on the Endeavour River on Cape York Peninsular in Far North Qld.  Named after Captain Cook  who beached his ship The Endeavour here.  Later is was a major gold area with subsequent Chinese miners in the area, many of the historic buildings and old pubs still give the town an other world feel.
