New Zealand Flora and Fauna

NZ has only one native mammal a small bat ( Peka peka) which is never seen.  Native birds used to be prolific but with the introduction of feral animals the forests are falling silent.  Sea birds still abound and the only mountain parrot in the world, the Kea, can still delight with its intelligent antics. Seals have returned after near extinction and dolphins and whales are safe. The flora is also unique with huge tree ferns, native flaxes,  delicate forest lichens and beautiful beeches.
