Many years ago when I was working in Yemen it was a vibrant, independent country with a unique culture, friendly, inquisitive people and extraordinary architecture. I spent 5 weeks among the people, travelled up into the mountains and beside the Red Sea, the desert of Marib (home to the fabled Queen of Sheba), saw the spots where the oldest universities existed, and visited palaces perched on top of rocks. Now – its war torn and its people, especially the children, are either starving or dying of curable diseases. A man made tragedy of immense proportions…these images are old but the memories haven’t faded.
